Betsy Visits South East Colorado
On Friday, August 1st, Betsy Markey traveled to Lamar, Colorado. She spent the afternoon meeting with local newspapers and small business owners. Betsy also spoke with community groups at the home of a local business leader.
On Saturday, Betsy was in Springfield, Colorado for the annual Baca County Fair and Parade. Joined by her three sisters and niece, Betsy walked in the parade and then enjoyed a barbecue with local residents.
That evening Betsy traveled to Las Animas, Colorado for the Bent County Fair and Rodeo.
“People in this part of the state are hurting from the high cost of gas and diesel,” said Markey. “I spoke with many folks who feel that their voices are not being heard in Washington, and that has got to change.”

This is the beginning to a long conversation that I hope to engage in with the voters of Colorado’s Fourth District. In the coming years, we face significant challenges with the economy and specifically with many of the issues that drive voters’ concerns about the economy – healthcare, renewable energy, the ongoing cost of the War in Iraq, and our burgeoning federal deficit. As we come closer to the election, I plan to address those concerns individually and at greater length.

Markey Leads Musgrave, new poll shows
Democratic challenger Betsy Markey has opened a lead over three-term incumbent Republican Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, according to a new poll released today.
Markey leads Musgrave 50-43, built largely on a huge advantage with independent voters, according to the poll by Survey USA for Roll Call, a respected periodical that covers congressional issues.
